Coat of Arms of Belgium

During WWII, Belgium was occupied by Nazi Germany from May 1940 to February 1945. After the war, Belgium was one of the founding members of NATO [1]. In 1948, it was also one of the first countries with a clandestine Stay-Behind Organisation (SBO), in cooperation with the British Secret Intelligence Service (SIS) (now: MI6) and the American Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Although Belgian Special Forces (SF) and Stay-Behind Organisations (SBO) mainly used foreign equipment – sometimes built under licence – there are also nationally developed and produced devices.
