Audiotel VTX/VRX
Covert transmitter and receiver

VTX/VRX was a body-wearable covert transmitter/receiver system, developed in the mid-1980s by Audiotel International Ltd. in Corby (UK). The system worked in the VHF band around 150 MHz and consisted of a separate transmitter (VTX-22) and receiver (VRX-SL). The system – which was not listed in Audiotel's catalogue – was only sold to law enforcement and intelligence agencies.

The unit on the left is the VRX-SL receiver. The one on the right is the VTX-22 transmitter. Each unit has its own battery and a piece of wire that is used as the antenna. A variety of different types of microphone was available for the transmitter, ranging from a small concealed one, to microphones with a separate push-to-talk (PTT) switch.
