Micromill RDF
Antenna Matching Unit

M7014 is an antenna matching unit with integrated antenna,
for use with the M7062 and M7063 tracking beacons,
developed around 1986 by
Micromill Electronics Ltd. in Emsworth
(later: Waterberry) (UK).
It was used by
law enforcement and intelligence services
for tracking vehicles, persons or goods under surveillance.
It has an adjustable clamp for fitting it to the bottom of a car.
|
The device consists of a cylindrical enclosure which contains an extension
coil. At the top of the cylinder is a fitting (with screw)
for holding the 16-20 cm long phosphor-bronze antenna wire.
At the bottom is an SMC socket for connection to the
M7062 or the M7063 tracking beacon,
for which the M7092 cable is required.
For the best results, the length of the antenna wire must be adjusted to
the chosen frequency. This is done by cutting the wire whilst
observing the VSWR with the M7013 Directional Power Meter.
The VSWR must be as low as possible.

|
At the side of the cylinder is a clamp that can be used to fit the antenna
to the bottom of a vehicle, preferably to an unshielded metal part, as this
provides the best ground. Note that fitting the antenna to the bottom of a
car is always a compromise, as it will be shielded by the metal of the car.
For this reason, a powerful beacons, such as the 2 Watt M7062,
is highly recommended.
