Brown Boveri & Company
Brown, Boveri and Company, or Brown, Boveri & Cie,
commonly abbreviated BBC, was a
Swiss group of electrical engineering companies, founded in 1891 in
Baden (Switzerland) by Charles Eugene Lancelot Brown and Walther Boveri.
The company was involved in the production of electrical motors,
generators, electrical appliences and electronics, including a range of
secure voice encryption solutions.
In 1988, after a period of financial losses and several
restructurings, Brown Boveri merged with the Swedish company ASEA to form
Asea Brown Boveri (ABB Group) [1].
Some divisions of Brown Boveri were sold to other companies, such as
the former electron tube factory, that was sold to Thales.
