Léon Theremin (27 August 1896 - 3 November 1993) was an inventor, musician,
physicist and spy, born in Saint Petersburg (Russia) as Lev Sergeyevich Termen(Лев Сергеевич Термен). He is best known for his invention of
the Theremin — a proximity sensitive musical instrument —
and The Thing — a passive covert listening device (bug)
that was used to spy on the Americans.
