Chiffriermaschinen Gesellschaft Heimsoeth und Rinke oHG · 1935-1945

Heimsoeth und Rinke, in full: Chiffriermaschinen Gesellschaft Heimsoeth und Rinke oHG, abbreviated H&R, was a German engineering company, founded on 31 July 1935 by Rudolf Heimsoeth and Elbeth Rinke – two former employees of Chiffriermaschinen Aktiengesellschaft (ChiMaAG) – and headquartered at Uhlandstraße 136 in Berlin-Wilmersdorf (Germany). The company is effectively the successor to ChiMaAG and was responsible for the largest production quantity (20,000+) of Enigma cipher machines in the run-up to, and during, World War II (WWII).

Original Heimsoeth und Rinke name shield after the company was founded in 1935

New name shield after Steglitzerstraße was renamed Ludendorffstraße on 7 March 1936

Note that whilst H&R was the engineering company where the Enigma cipher machine was further developed and marketed, most of the actual production took place at Konski & Krüger (K&K) at Chausseestraße 117, also in Berlin. In addition, other manufacturers were contracted to build certain Enigma models during WWII, such as Olympia in Erfurt and Ertel-Werk in München.
