Cryptek Secure Communications

Cryptek, Inc., was a company that developed and sold information security products and services to governments and corporations, founded in 1986 and headquartered in Dulles (Virginia, USA). After a bankruptcy in 2008, Cryptek was acquired by API Nanotronics Corporation in 2009 [1].

Cryptek was founded in 1986 as Cryptek Secure Communications, Inc., and became known for its secure FAX machines for the US Armed Forces. In 1988, the company was acquired by General Kinetics, a manufacturer of secure enclosures and other produts. In 1993, General Kinetics also acquired Verdix, a manufacturer of secure networking equipment for the US Government.

In 1996, private equity firm Angelo, Gordon & Co. acquired the FAX and secure networking business from General Kinetics, and went on as Cryptek Secure Communications, LLC. In 2002, the company simplified its name to Cryptek, Inc. After a restructuring in 2005, Bill Anderson became President and CEO. Two years later, in 2007, the company acquired Secure Systems Group, Emcon Emanation Control Ltd., Secure Systems & Technologies Ltd. (SST) and ION Networks.

In November 2008, the company filed for bankruptcy, which became effective in March 2009. Through a senior management buyout, a new company – Cryptek Technologies, Inc. – was founded on 11 March 2009. In July 2009, the new Cryptek was taken over by API Nanotronics Corp.
