Intercept USSR
LW/SW intercept receiver
- this page is a stub
BURUN-1 (Russian: БУРУН-1) is a fully transistorised digitally-controlled
PLL-based VLF/LW/SW communications receiver,
built from 1985 onwards at the MUSSON factory in Sevastopol (Crimea, USSR).
It covers 10 kHz to 30 MHz and was intended
for use aboard ships, often in combination with a Corvette (КОРВЕТ),
Brig (БРИГ) or Bark (БАРК) transmitter.
The receiver reportedly has good characteristics, but is notorious
for its many electronic faillures, caused by vulnerable parts [2][3].

At the rear of the receiver, as part of unit A1, is a 32-way
3-row male receptacle for connection of the Power Supply Unit (PSU).
Although not compatible, this connector is similar to the Western series of
D-sub connectors, albeit with a different
layout. Only the first 24 contacts are used.

At the front of the Burun-1 power supply unit (PSU) is a circular 32-pin
female receptacle for connection to the Burun-1 receiver. Only the first 24
contacts are used and they are wired 1:1 to the 32-pin D-sub connector on the
receiver. Below is the layout when looking into the receptacle.
