- this page is a stub
BA-5590 (or equivalent), is a 12/24V battery used by the US Armed Forces and
NATO to power a variety of military equipment including – but not limited to –
SINCGARS radio sets, and portable voice and data
encryption modules like KY-57 and KY-99.
The battery has standardized dimensions and contains two internal 12V batteries,
that can be used in series (24V) or parallel (12V).

|
There are many versions and variants in the BA-5590 battery family,
with different chemistry, voltage and capacity, both chargeable and
non-rechargeable. The most common types are not rechargeable.
Below is a non-exhaustive overview of compatible batteries [1].

BA-5590 has a 6-pin socket in one of its corners. The position
of this connector is standardized. It mates with the power plug of the
equipment or the equipment's battery holder. Inside the BA-5590 are two
fully separate batteries — here numbered (1) and (2) — that are individually wired
to the connector. This way, the equipment can use them in series (24V)
or parallel (12V).
