Voice encyption unit - this page is a stub - wanted item

BID/150, codenamed DELPHI, is a military voice encryption device, developed in the late 1960s in the UK. The device was intended for use in combination with the C42 and C45 Larkspur Combat NET radios, and consisted of a control panel and three IBM-style punched card readers, mounted side by side at the front. The device is suitable for a single radio channel and was usually mounted in a rack, with the Digital Modulation (DM) box of the radio mounted in front.

The device was first used in an operational context by tghe 15th Signal Regiment during the Aden Crisis, and was widely used from batallion level io to corps headquarters. The IBM-style punched cards were marked X, Y and Z respectively. It is believed that it was the first device to use punched cards for key exchange. BID/150 was phased out in the early 1980s.
