Top view

This is what the Fialka M-124-3xx (i.e. the 'newer' version) looks like when viewed from the top. The copy holder has been raised in order to give a view inside the printing mechanism. The machine can best be described as a 10-wheel cipher machine, a telex machine (teletype), a printer, a tape puncher and a tape reader, all in one.

Fialka Left side

The left side of the machine holds the 24V power connector in the top left. Just above the power connector is the paper tape output guide. At the centre of the left side is a drawer that gives access to the punched card reader. Below that is a slide switch that allows the machine to be used for numbers only (10) or alpha-numerical data (30).

Fialka Right side

This is the right side of the Fialka. At the upper right is the paper tape input. At the bottom right is the paper chad output channel and, to the right of it, the (digital) data output socket. At the left is a metal lever that is used to switch the tape unit between transmit and receive. At the centre is a mechanical switch that forces a the output to be printed in groups of 5 letters.

Fialka Interior

When the cover of the machine is removed, the complex mechanical interior is revealed. Behind the keyboard is the drum with the 10 coding wheels. To the right of the drum is a large red mode switch that also contains an electronic circuit. Behind the drum is the power supply, the printer and the tape puncher.
